In this tutorial we learn how to install qsynth on CentOS 8.

What is qsynth

QSynth is a fluidsynth GUI front-end application written in C++ around the Qt4 toolkit using Qt Designer. Eventually it may evolve into a softsynth management application allowing the user to control and manage a variety of command line softsynth but for the moment it wraps the excellent FluidSynth. FluidSynth is a command line software synthesizer based on the Soundfont specification.

We can use yum or dnf to install qsynth on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install qsynth.

Install qsynth on CentOS 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install qsynth using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install qsynth

Install qsynth on CentOS 8 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install qsynth using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install qsynth

How To Uninstall qsynth on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the qsynth package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove qsynth
