What is python36-sip

This is the Python 3 build of SIP. SIP is a tool for generating bindings for C++ classes so that they can be accessed as normal Python classes. SIP takes many of its ideas from SWIG but, because it is specifically designed for C++ and Python, is able to generate tighter bindings. SIP is so called because it is a small SWIG. SIP was originally designed to generate Python bindings for KDE and so has explicit support for the signal slot mechanism used by the Qt/KDE class libraries. However, SIP can be used to generate Python bindings for any C++ class library.

We can use yum or dnf to install python36-sip on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install python36-sip.

Install python36-sip on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python36-sip using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install python36-sip

Install python36-sip on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python36-sip using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install python36-sip

How To Uninstall python36-sip on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the python36-sip package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove python36-sip
