What is python36-py4j

Py4J enables Python programs running in a Python interpreter to dynamically access Java objects in a Java Virtual Machine. Methods are called as if the Java objects resided in the Python interpreter and Java collections can be accessed through standard Python collection methods. Py4J also enables Java programs to call back Python objects. Py4J is distributed under the BSD license. This package is for usage with Python3 version 3.6 only.

We can use yum or dnf to install python36-py4j on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install python36-py4j.

Install python36-py4j on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python36-py4j using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install python36-py4j

Install python36-py4j on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python36-py4j using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install python36-py4j

How To Uninstall python36-py4j on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the python36-py4j package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove python36-py4j
