What is python3-unidecode
python3-unidecode is:
It often happens that you have text data in Unicode, but you need to represent it in ASCII for display. One could represent non-roman Unicode characters as “???” or “\15BA\15A0\1610”, but neither is useful to the user reading the text.
Unidecode tries to represent it in ASCII characters (i.e., the universally displayable characters between 0x00 and 0x7F), where the compromises taken when mapping between two character sets are chosen to be near what a human with a US keyboard would choose.
This module generally produces better results than simply stripping accents from characters (which can be done in Python with built-in functions). It is based on hand-tuned character mappings that for example also contain ASCII approximations for symbols and non-Latin alphabets.
unidecode is a Python 3 port of the Text::Unidecode Perl module.
There are three methods to install python3-unidecode on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python3-unidecode Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install python3-unidecode using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python3-unidecode
How To Uninstall python3-unidecode on Debian 9
To uninstall only the python3-unidecode package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python3-unidecode
Uninstall python3-unidecode And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python3-unidecode and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-unidecode
Remove python3-unidecode Configurations and Data
To remove python3-unidecode configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python3-unidecode
