In this tutorial we learn how to install python3-potr on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is python3-potr

python3-potr is:

pure-python-otr is a pure Python implementation of the OTR protocol (Off-the-Record encryption, see the OTR website for more information). This gives developers the flexibility to implement OTR encryption for their Python-based Instant Messaging clients. A gajim-otr plugin will be available in the next major Gajim release to provide IM encryption independently of the underlying chat protocol.

This is the Python 3 version of the package.

There are three methods to install python3-potr on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install python3-potr Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install python3-potr using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install python3-potr

Install python3-potr Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install python3-potr using apt by running the following command:

Install python3-potr Using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install python3-potr

To uninstall only the python3-potr package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove python3-potr

To uninstall python3-potr and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-potr

Remove python3-potr Configurations and Data

To remove python3-potr configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge python3-potr
