How To Install python3-openturns on Ubuntu 18.04

What is python3-openturns
python3-openturns is:
OpenTURNS is a powerful and generic tool to treat and quantify uncertainties in numerical simulations in design, optimization and control. It allows both sensitivity and reliability analysis studies:
- defining the outputs of interest and decision criterion;
- quantify and model the source of uncertainties;
- propagate uncertainties and/or analyse sensitivity and
- rank the sources of uncertainty
OpenTURNS is a large project with more than 300 C++ classes which uses well known and supported software such as R for the statistical methods and BLAS/LAPACK for the linear algebra.
This package provides a textual user interface with Python3 that gives access to all the functionalities provided by the OpenTURNS library.
There are three methods to install python3-openturns
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python3-openturns Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-openturns
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install python3-openturns

Install python3-openturns Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-openturns
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python3-openturns
How To Uninstall python3-openturns on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python3-openturns
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python3-openturns
Uninstall python3-openturns And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python3-openturns
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-openturns
Remove python3-openturns Configurations and Data
To remove python3-openturns
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python3-openturns
Remove python3-openturns configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python3-openturns
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python3-openturns
