python3-mpmath is:
Mpmath is a pure-Python library for multiprecision floating-point arithmetic. It provides an extensive set of transcendental functions, unlimited exponent sizes, complex numbers, interval arithmetic, numerical integration and differentiation, root-finding, linear algebra, and much more. Almost any calculation can be performed just as well at 10-digit or 1000-digit precision, and in many cases mpmath implements asymptotically fast algorithms that scale well for extremely high precision work.
If available, mpmath will (optionally) use gmpy to speed up high precision operations. If matplotlib is available, mpmath also provides a convenient plotting interface.
Its features include:
- Fair performance – typically 10-100x faster than Python’s decimal library
- Transcendental functions – all functions from Python’s math and cmath modules, plus a few more like gamma, factorial, erf

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-mpmath using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python3-mpmath
How To Uninstall python3-mpmath on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python3-mpmath package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python3-mpmath
Uninstall python3-mpmath And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python3-mpmath and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-mpmath
Remove python3-mpmath Configurations and Data
To remove python3-mpmath configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python3-mpmath
Remove python3-mpmath configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python3-mpmath configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
