With python-dbusmock you can easily create mock objects on D-Bus. This is useful for writing tests for software which talks to D-Bus services such as upower, systemd, ConsoleKit, gnome-session or others, and it is hard (or impossible without root privileges) to set the state of the real services to what you expect in your tests.
Mock objects look like the real API (or at least the parts that you actually need), but they do not actually do anything (or only some action that you specify yourself). You can configure their state, behaviour and responses as you like in your test, without making any assumptions about the real system status.
You can use this with any programming language, as you can run the mocker as a normal program. The actual setup of the mock (adding objects, methods, properties, etc.) all happen via D-Bus methods on the org.freedesktop.DBus.Mock interface. You just don’t have the convenience D-Bus launch API that way.
There are three methods to install python3-dbusmock on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python3-dbusmock Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-dbusmock using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python3-dbusmock

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-dbusmock using apt by running the following command:

Install python3-dbusmock Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-dbusmock using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python3-dbusmock
How To Uninstall python3-dbusmock on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python3-dbusmock package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python3-dbusmock
Uninstall python3-dbusmock And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python3-dbusmock and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-dbusmock
Remove python3-dbusmock Configurations and Data
To remove python3-dbusmock configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python3-dbusmock
Remove python3-dbusmock configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python3-dbusmock configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python3-dbusmock
