How To Install python-rospy on Ubuntu 18.04

This package is part of Robot OS (ROS). The rospy client API enables Python programmers to quickly interface with ROS topics, services, and parameters. The design of rospy favors implementation speed (i.e. developer time) over runtime performance so that algorithms can be quickly prototyped and tested within ROS. It is also ideal for non-critical-path code, such as configuration and initialization code. Many of the ROS tools are written in rospy to take advantage of the type introspection capabilities.
Many of the ROS tools, such as rostopic and rosservice, are built on top of rospy.
There are three methods to install python-rospy on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-rospy Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-rospy using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-rospy
Install python-rospy Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-rospy using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-rospy
Install python-rospy Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-rospy using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-rospy
How To Uninstall python-rospy on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-rospy package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-rospy
Uninstall python-rospy And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-rospy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-rospy
Remove python-rospy Configurations and Data
To remove python-rospy configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-rospy
Remove python-rospy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-rospy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-rospy
