How To Install python-reportlab on Ubuntu 18.04

on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is python-reportlab
python-reportlab is:
ReportLab is a library that lets you directly create documents in Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF) using the Python programming language.
ReportLab library creates PDF based on graphics commands without intervening steps. It’s therefore extremely fast, and flexible (since you’re using a full-blown programming language).
Sample use cases are:
- Dynamic PDF generation on the web
- High-volume corporate reporting and database publishing
- As embeddable print engine for other applications, including a ‘report language’ so that users can customize their own reports.
- As ‘build system’ for complex documents with charts, tables and text such as management accounts, statistical reports and scientific papers

There are three methods to install python-reportlab
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-reportlab Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-reportlab
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-reportlab
Install python-reportlab Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-reportlab

by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-reportlab
Install python-reportlab Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-reportlab
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-reportlab
How To Uninstall python-reportlab on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-reportlab
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-reportlab
Uninstall python-reportlab And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-reportlab
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-reportlab
Remove python-reportlab Configurations and Data
To remove python-reportlab
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-reportlab
Remove python-reportlab configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-reportlab
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-reportlab
