This is a Python implementation of SNMP v.1/v.2c/v.3 engine. Its general functionality is to assemble/disassemble SNMP messages from/into given SNMP Object IDs along with associated values. PySNMP also provides a few transport methods specific to TCP/IP networking.
PySNMP is written entirely in Python and is self-sufficient in terms that it does not rely on any third party tool (it isn’t a wrapper).
This package provides Python 2 module.
There are three methods to install python-pysnmp4 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-pysnmp4 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-pysnmp4 using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-pysnmp4 using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-pysnmp4 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-pysnmp4
How To Uninstall python-pysnmp4 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-pysnmp4 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-pysnmp4
Uninstall python-pysnmp4 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-pysnmp4 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-pysnmp4
Remove python-pysnmp4 Configurations and Data
To remove python-pysnmp4 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-pysnmp4
Remove python-pysnmp4 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-pysnmp4 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-pysnmp4
