What is python-paho-mqtt

This library provides a client class which enable applications to connect to an MQTT broker to publish messages, and to subscribe to topics and receive published messages. It also provides some helper functions to make publishing one off messages to an MQTT server very straightforward. The MQTT protocol is a machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity protocol. Designed as an extremely lightweight publish/subscribe messaging transport, it is useful for connections with remote locations where a small code footprint is required and/or network bandwidth is at a premium.

We can use yum or dnf to install python-paho-mqtt on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install python-paho-mqtt.

Install python-paho-mqtt on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python-paho-mqtt using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install python-paho-mqtt

Install python-paho-mqtt on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python-paho-mqtt using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install python-paho-mqtt

How To Uninstall python-paho-mqtt on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the python-paho-mqtt package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove python-paho-mqtt
