How To Install python-neo on Ubuntu 18.04

What is python-neo
python-neo is:
NEO stands for Neural Ensemble Objects and is a project to provide common classes and concepts for dealing with electro-physiological (in vivo and/or simulated) data to facilitate collaborative software/algorithm development. In particular Neo provides: a set a classes for data representation with precise definitions, an IO module with a simple API, documentation, and a set of examples.
NEO offers support for reading data from numerous proprietary file formats (e.g. Spike2, Plexon, AlphaOmega, BlackRock, Axon), read/write support for various open formats (e.g. KlustaKwik, Elan, WinEdr, WinWcp, PyNN), as well as support common file formats, such as HDF5 with Neo-structured content (NeoHDF5, NeoMatlab).
Neo’s IO facilities can be seen as a pure-Python and open-source Neuroshare replacement.
There are three methods to install python-neo on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-neo Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-neo using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-neo
Install python-neo Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-neo using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-neo
Install python-neo Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-neo using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-neo
How To Uninstall python-neo on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-neo package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-neo
Uninstall python-neo And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-neo and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-neo
Remove python-neo Configurations and Data
To remove python-neo configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-neo
Remove python-neo configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-neo configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-neo
