How To Install python-lockfile on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install python-lockfile on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is python-lockfile
python-lockfile is:
The ‘lockfile’ library exports a ‘LockFile’ class which provides a simple API for locking files.
The appropriate implementation for ‘LockFile’ is chosen automatically based on the OS capabilities for an atomic filesystem operation. These implementations are also available for explicit use as ‘LinkLockFile’ and ‘MkdirLockFile’.
Other back ends are possible with the same semantics. Examples included are:
- ‘SQLiteLockFile’, using records in an SQLite database.
- ‘PIDLockFile’, using the semantics of a Unix PID file.
Unlike other Python locking libraries (the Windows ‘msvcrt.locking’ function, the Unix ‘fcntl.flock’, ‘fcntl.lockf’, and the deprecated ‘posixfile’ module), the API is identical across both Unix (including GNU/Linux and MacOS) and Windows platforms.
This package installs the Python 2 library.
There are three methods to install python-lockfile on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-lockfile Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-lockfile using apt-get by running the following command:

Install python-lockfile Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-lockfile using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-lockfile
How To Uninstall python-lockfile on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-lockfile package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-lockfile
Uninstall python-lockfile And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-lockfile and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-lockfile
Remove python-lockfile Configurations and Data
To remove python-lockfile configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-lockfile
Remove python-lockfile configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-lockfile configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-lockfile
