Python-json-patch is a Python module (a library) to apply JSON Patches according to the IETF draft specification.
From the IETF site:
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) [RFC4627] is a common format for the exchange and storage of structured data. HTTP PATCH [RFC5789] extends the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) [RFC2616] with a method to perform partial modifications to resources.
JSON Patch is a format (identified by the media type “application/ json-patch”) for expressing a sequence of operations to apply to a target JSON document, suitable for use with the HTTP PATCH method.
This format is also potentially useful in other cases when it’s necessary to make partial updates to a JSON document.
This package is a transitional package to python-jsonpatch.
There are three methods to install python-json-patch on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-json-patch Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-json-patch using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-json-patch

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-json-patch using apt by running the following command:

Install python-json-patch Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-json-patch using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-json-patch
How To Uninstall python-json-patch on Debian 9
To uninstall only the python-json-patch package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-json-patch
Uninstall python-json-patch And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-json-patch and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-json-patch
Remove python-json-patch Configurations and Data
To remove python-json-patch configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-json-patch
