How To Install python-cpl on Ubuntu 18.04

This module can list, configure and execute CPL-based recipes from Python3. The input, calibration and output data can be specified as FITS files or as pyfits objects in memory.
The Common Pipeline Library (CPL) comprises a set of ISO-C libraries that provide a comprehensive, efficient and robust software toolkit. It forms a basis for the creation of automated astronomical data-reduction tasks.
One of the features provided by the CPL is the ability to create data-reduction algorithms that run as plugins (dynamic libraries). These are called “recipes” and are one of the main aspects of the CPL data-reduction development environment.
There are three methods to install python-cpl on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-cpl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-cpl using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-cpl
Install python-cpl Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-cpl using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-cpl
Install python-cpl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-cpl using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-cpl
How To Uninstall python-cpl on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-cpl package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-cpl
Uninstall python-cpl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-cpl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-cpl
Remove python-cpl Configurations and Data
To remove python-cpl configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-cpl
Remove python-cpl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-cpl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-cpl
