In this tutorial we learn how to install python-boto on CentOS 7.

What is python-boto

Boto is a Python package that provides interfaces to Amazon Web Services. It supports over thirty services, such as S3 (Simple Storage Service), SQS (Simple Queue Service), and EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) via their REST and Query APIs. The goal of boto is to support the full breadth and depth of Amazon Web Services. In addition, boto provides support for other public services such as Google Storage in addition to private cloud systems like Eucalyptus, OpenStack and Open Nebula.

We can use yum or dnf to install python-boto on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install python-boto.

Install python-boto on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python-boto using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install python-boto

Install python-boto on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install python-boto using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install python-boto

How To Uninstall python-boto on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the python-boto package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove python-boto
