How To Install ptex-jtex on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ptex-jtex on Kali Linux.

What is ptex-jtex

ptex-jtex is:

ASCII jTeX is Japanese TeX, designed by ASCII corporation.

In this version, ‘jtex’ and ‘jlatex’ are renamed as ‘ajtex’ and ‘ajlatex’, respectively. And these programs are compiled with a recent ptex, which is included in texlive-binaries package. Note ajlatex is of latex209 version.

Note ptex in texlive-binaries needs to use option “–kanji=euc” for a file in EUC-JP encoding, so please add “–kanji=euc” for ajtex/ajlatex commands.

There are three methods to install ptex-jtex on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ptex-jtex Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ptex-jtex using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ptex-jtex

Install ptex-jtex Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ptex-jtex using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ptex-jtex

Install ptex-jtex Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ptex-jtex using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ptex-jtex

How To Uninstall ptex-jtex on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the ptex-jtex package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ptex-jtex

Uninstall ptex-jtex And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ptex-jtex and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ptex-jtex

Remove ptex-jtex Configurations and Data

To remove ptex-jtex configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ptex-jtex

Remove ptex-jtex configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ptex-jtex configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ptex-jtex
