How To Install pst-utils on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install pst-utils on Kali Linux.

What is pst-utils

pst-utils is:

This package contains tools based on libpst to read data from Microsoft Outlook PST files.

  • readpst - export data from PST files to a variety of formats, including mbox, MH and KMail. Other packages like mb2md are available for subsequent conversions to Maildir and other formats.
  • lspst - list data in PST files.
  • pst2ldif - extract contacts from a PST file and prepare them for input in LDAP
  • pst2dii - export data from PST files to Summation dii load file format

There are three methods to install pst-utils on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pst-utils Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pst-utils using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pst-utils

Install pst-utils Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pst-utils using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pst-utils

Install pst-utils Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pst-utils using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pst-utils

How To Uninstall pst-utils on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the pst-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pst-utils

Uninstall pst-utils And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pst-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pst-utils

Remove pst-utils Configurations and Data

To remove pst-utils configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pst-utils

Remove pst-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pst-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
