How To Install psmisc on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install psmisc on Kali Linux.
What is psmisc
psmisc is:
This package contains miscellaneous utilities that use the proc FS:
- fuser: identifies processes that are using files or sockets.
- killall: kills processes by name (e.g. “killall -HUP named”).
- peekfd: shows the data traveling over a file descriptor.
- pstree: shows currently running processes as a tree.
- prtstat: print the contents of /proc/
/stat
There are three methods to install psmisc on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install psmisc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install psmisc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install psmiscInstall psmisc Using apt

To uninstall only the psmisc package we can use the following command:

To uninstall psmisc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove psmiscRemove psmisc Configurations and Data
To remove psmisc configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge psmiscRemove psmisc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
