In this tutorial we learn how to install psensor on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is psensor

psensor is:

Psensor is a GTK+ application for monitoring hardware sensors, including temperatures and fan speeds.

It displays a curve for each sensor, alerts user using Desktop Notification and Application Indicator when a temperature is too high.

It can monitor:

  • the temperature of the motherboard and CPU sensors (using lm-sensors).
  • the temperature of the NVidia GPUs (using XNVCtrl).
  • the temperature of the Hard Disk Drives (using hddtemp or atasmart lib).
  • the rotation speed of the fans (using lm-sensors).
  • the sensors of a remote computer (using psensor-server).

There are three methods to install psensor on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install psensor Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install psensor using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install psensor

Install psensor Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install psensor using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install psensor

Install psensor Using aptitude
