In this tutorial we learn how to install proxytunnel on CentOS 8.
What is proxytunnel
ProxyTunnel is a program that connects stdin and stdout to a server somewhere on the network, through a standard HTTPS proxy. We mostly use it to tunnel SSH sessions through HTTP(S) proxies. Proxytunnel can currently do the following * Create tunnels using HTTP and HTTPS proxies (That understand the HTTP CONNECT command). * Work as a back-end driver for an OpenSSH client, and create SSH connections through HTTP(S) proxies. * Work as a stand-alone application, listening on a port for connections, and then tunneling these connections to a specified destination.
We can use yum or dnf to install proxytunnel on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install proxytunnel.
Install proxytunnel on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install proxytunnel using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install proxytunnel
Install proxytunnel on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install proxytunnel using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install proxytunnel
How To Uninstall proxytunnel on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the proxytunnel package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove proxytunnel
