In this tutorial we learn how to install proteinortho on Kali Linux.

What is proteinortho

proteinortho is:

Proteinortho is a stand-alone tool that is geared towards large datasets and makes use of distributed computing techniques when run on multi-core hardware. It implements an extended version of the reciprocal best alignment heuristic. Proteinortho was applied to compute orthologous proteins in the complete set of all 717 eubacterial genomes available at NCBI at the beginning of 2009. Authors succeeded identifying thirty proteins present in 99% of all bacterial proteomes.

There are three methods to install proteinortho on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install proteinortho Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install proteinortho using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install proteinortho

Install proteinortho Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update
