How To Install profanity-light on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install profanity-light on Kali Linux.
What is profanity-light
profanity-light is:
Profanity is a console based instant messaging client for XMPP (Jabber) protocol based chat. It is inspired by popular IRC client IRSSI.
Profanity’s features are:
- Supports XMPP chat services
- MUC chat room support
- PGP, OMEMO, and OTR encryption
- Roster management
- Flexible resource and priority settings
- Plugins in C
- Support for colorthemes
This version does not depend on X11 libraries nor Python. If you like to have support for xscreensaver, icons, notifications, or Python plugins, you should install profanity instead of profanity-light.
There are three methods to install profanity-light on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install profanity-light Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install profanity-light using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install profanity-lightInstall profanity-light Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install profanity-light using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install profanity-lightInstall profanity-light Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install profanity-light using aptitude by running the following command:

To uninstall only the profanity-light package we can use the following command:

To uninstall profanity-light and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

To remove profanity-light configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
