What is procmail

Procmail can be used to create mail-servers, mailing lists, sort your incoming mail into separate folders/files (real convenient when subscribing to one or more mailing lists or for prioritising your mail), preprocess your mail, start any programs upon mail arrival (e.g. to generate different chimes on your workstation for different types of mail) or selectively forward certain incoming mail automatically to someone.

We can use yum or dnf to install procmail on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install procmail.

Install procmail on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install procmail using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install procmail

Install procmail on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install procmail using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install procmail

How To Uninstall procmail on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the procmail package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove procmail
