How To Install prime-phylo on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install prime-phylo
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is prime-phylo
prime-phylo is:
PrIME (Probabilistic Integrated Models of Evolution) is a package supporting inference of evolutionary parameters in a Bayesian framework using Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation. A distinguishing feature of PrIME is that the species tree is taken into account when analyzing gene trees.
The input data to PrIME is a multiple sequence alignment in FASTA format and the output data contains trees in Newick format.
There are three methods to install prime-phylo
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install prime-phylo Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install prime-phylo
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install prime-phylo

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install prime-phylo
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install prime-phylo
Install prime-phylo Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install prime-phylo
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install prime-phylo
How To Uninstall prime-phylo on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the prime-phylo
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove prime-phylo
Uninstall prime-phylo And Its Dependencies
To uninstall prime-phylo
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove prime-phylo
Remove prime-phylo Configurations and Data
To remove prime-phylo
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge prime-phylo
