How To Install prettyping on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install prettyping on Kali Linux.

What is prettyping

prettyping is:

prettyping is a simple tool written in Shell to show latency between the sending and the destination hosts.

It is a wrapper around the standard ping tool with the objective of making the output prettier, more colorful, more compact, and easier to read.

prettyping runs the standard ping in the background and parses its output, showing the ping responses in a graphical way at the terminal (by using colors and Unicode characters).

There are three methods to install prettyping on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install prettyping Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install prettyping using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install prettyping

Install prettyping Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install prettyping using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install prettyping

Install prettyping Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install prettyping using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install prettyping

How To Uninstall prettyping on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the prettyping package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove prettyping

Uninstall prettyping And Its Dependencies

To uninstall prettyping and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove prettyping

Remove prettyping Configurations and Data

To remove prettyping configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge prettyping

Remove prettyping configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove prettyping configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge prettyping
