What is praat

praat is:

According to its authors, praat is “doing phonetics by computer”. Through its graphical interface, several speech analysis functionalities are available: spectrograms, cochleograms, and pitch and formant extraction. Articulatory synthesis, as well as synthesis from pitch, formant, and intensity are also available. Other features are segmentation, labelling using the phonetic alphabet, and computation of statistics. Praat is configurable and extensible through its own scripting language and has provisions for communicating with other programs.

There are three methods to install praat on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install praat Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install praat using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install praat

After updating apt database, We can install praat using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install praat

Install praat Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install praat using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install praat

How To Uninstall praat on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the praat package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove praat

To uninstall praat and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove praat

Remove praat Configurations and Data

To remove praat configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge praat
