How To Install postgresql-pgsphere on Ubuntu 20.04

on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is postgresql-pgsphere
postgresql-pgsphere is:
PgSphere, an extension for PostgreSQL, aims at providing uniform access to spherical data. It allows for a fast search and analysis for objects with spherical attributes in geographical, astronomical, or other applications using PostgreSQL.
By using an SQL interface, PgSphere’s users can conveniently manage data of geographical objects around the world and astronomical data collections like star and other catalogues.
There are three methods to install postgresql-pgsphere
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install postgresql-pgsphere Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install postgresql-pgsphere
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install postgresql-pgsphere
Install postgresql-pgsphere Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install postgresql-pgsphere
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install postgresql-pgsphere
Install postgresql-pgsphere Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install postgresql-pgsphere
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install postgresql-pgsphere
How To Uninstall postgresql-pgsphere on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the postgresql-pgsphere
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove postgresql-pgsphere
Uninstall postgresql-pgsphere And Its Dependencies
To uninstall postgresql-pgsphere
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove postgresql-pgsphere
Remove postgresql-pgsphere Configurations and Data
To remove postgresql-pgsphere
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge postgresql-pgsphere
Remove postgresql-pgsphere configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove postgresql-pgsphere
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge postgresql-pgsphere
