How To Install postgis on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install postgis on Kali Linux.
What is postgis
postgis is:
PostGIS adds support for geographic objects to the PostgreSQL object-relational database. In effect, PostGIS “spatially enables” the PostgreSQL server, allowing it to be used as a backend spatial database for geographic information systems (GIS), much like ESRI’s SDE or Oracle’s Spatial extension. PostGIS follows the OpenGIS “Simple Features Specification for SQL”.
This package contains the PostGIS userland binaries for importing and exporting shape and raster files: pgsql2shp, raster2pgsql, and shp2pgsql.
There are three methods to install postgis on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install postgis Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install postgis using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install postgisInstall postgis Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install postgis using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install postgisInstall postgis Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install postgis using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install postgisHow To Uninstall postgis on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the postgis package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove postgisUninstall postgis And Its Dependencies
To uninstall postgis and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove postgisRemove postgis Configurations and Data
To remove postgis configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge postgisRemove postgis configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove postgis configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge postgisDependencies
