How To Install pollinate on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install pollinate
on Kali Linux.
What is pollinate
pollinate is:
This client will connect to one or more Pollen (entropy-as-a-service) servers over an (optionally) encrypted connection and retrieve a random seed over HTTP or HTTPS. This is particularly useful at the first boot of cloud images and in virtual machines, to seed a system’s random number generator at genesis, and is intended to supplement the /etc/init.d/urandom init script. It can be used on physical machines, as well, to supplement the seeding of the pseudo random number generator.
There are three methods to install pollinate
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pollinate Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pollinate
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pollinate
Install pollinate Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pollinate
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pollinate
Install pollinate Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pollinate
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pollinate
How To Uninstall pollinate on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the pollinate
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pollinate
Uninstall pollinate And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pollinate
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pollinate
Remove pollinate Configurations and Data
To remove pollinate
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pollinate
