How To Install pki-ca on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pki-ca on Kali Linux.

What is pki-ca

pki-ca is:

The Certificate Authority (CA) is a required PKI subsystem which issues, renews, revokes, and publishes certificates as well as compiling and publishing Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs).

The Certificate Authority can be configured as a self-signing Certificate Authority, where it is the root CA, or it can act as a subordinate CA, where it obtains its own signing certificate from a public CA.

This package is a part of the PKI Core used by the Certificate System.

There are three methods to install pki-ca on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pki-ca Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pki-ca using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pki-ca

Install pki-ca Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pki-ca using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pki-ca

Install pki-ca Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pki-ca using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pki-ca

How To Uninstall pki-ca on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the pki-ca package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pki-ca

Uninstall pki-ca And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pki-ca and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pki-ca

Remove pki-ca Configurations and Data

To remove pki-ca configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pki-ca
