How To Install php-net-smtp on Debian 9

What is php-net-smtp
php-net-smtp is:
Provides an implementation of the SMTP protocol using PEAR’s Net_Socket class. The php-net-smtp package supports the SMTP authentication standard (as defined by RFC-2554) if you also install the php-auth-sasl package. Net_SMTP then supports several authentication methods like DIGEST-MD5, CRAM-MD5, LOGIN and PLAIN.
There are three methods to install php-net-smtp
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install php-net-smtp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install php-net-smtp
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install php-net-smtp

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install php-net-smtp
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install php-net-smtp
How To Uninstall php-net-smtp on Debian 9
To uninstall only the php-net-smtp
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove php-net-smtp
Uninstall php-net-smtp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall php-net-smtp
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove php-net-smtp
Remove php-net-smtp Configurations and Data
To remove php-net-smtp
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge php-net-smtp
