How To Install pd-scaf on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-scaf on Kali Linux.

What is pd-scaf

pd-scaf is:

PDP is an extension library for Pd that allows you to manipulate movies and live video data in realtime. PDP stands for Pd Packet, the data container that is used for images in PDP.

This is a PDP extension lib that contains modules for cellular automata built on a (very) minimal forth-like virtual system (scaf - simple cellular automaton forth) to define update rules. A compiler is included to produce ‘scafo’ object code that can be dynamically loaded into the [pdp_ca] module. So it is possible to add/change rules without restarting Pd.

There are three methods to install pd-scaf on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-scaf Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-scaf using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-scaf

Install pd-scaf Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-scaf using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-scaf

Install pd-scaf Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-scaf using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-scaf

How To Uninstall pd-scaf on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the pd-scaf package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-scaf

Uninstall pd-scaf And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-scaf and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-scaf

Remove pd-scaf Configurations and Data

To remove pd-scaf configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-scaf

Remove pd-scaf configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-scaf configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-scaf
