In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-motex on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is pd-motex

pd-motex is:

A collection of externals from Iain Mott that mostly provide some math functions for Pure Data:

  • polygate~ - switch between multiple signal inputs, variable fade rate both linear & equal power
  • shuffle - a no-repeat random generator, outputs numbers within a set range
  • pan~ - equal power stereo panning
  • system - sends a system message to the console
  • ln~ - natural log + inverse
  • rec2pol~ - convert rectangular coordinates to polar eg. can be used to convert sine & cosine rfft~ output to phase & magnitude
  • pol2rec~ - inverse of rec2pol~
  • getenv - Sends value of an environment variable argument on bang

There are three methods to install pd-motex on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-motex Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-motex using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-motex

Install pd-motex Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-motex using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-motex

Install pd-motex Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-motex using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-motex

How To Uninstall pd-motex on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the pd-motex package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-motex

Uninstall pd-motex And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-motex and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-motex

Remove pd-motex Configurations and Data

To remove pd-motex configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-motex

Remove pd-motex configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-motex configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-motex
