In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-chaos on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is pd-chaos

pd-chaos is:

chaos is a library of Pd objects for calculating various chaotic attractors, including: lorenz, rossler, henon, ikeda, attract1, base, base3, dejong, gingerbreadman, hopalong, latoocarfian, latoomutalpha, latoomutbeta, latoomutgamma, logistic, lotka_volterra, martin, mlogistic, pickover, popcorn, quadruptwo, standardmap, strange1, tent, three_d, threeply, tinkerbell and unity.

The package includes 1, 2 and 3 dimensional attractors. There are outlets for each dimension, starting from the left, followed by three outlets for attractor data (see the help patches for details). The scale of the values vary between the different attractors.

Some of the algorithms were derived from other projects, including Julian C. Sprott’s attract.java and algorithms by Cliff Pickover.

There are three methods to install pd-chaos on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-chaos Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-chaos using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-chaos

Install pd-chaos Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-chaos using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-chaos

Install pd-chaos Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-chaos using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-chaos

How To Uninstall pd-chaos on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the pd-chaos package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-chaos

Uninstall pd-chaos And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-chaos and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-chaos

Remove pd-chaos Configurations and Data

To remove pd-chaos configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-chaos

Remove pd-chaos configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-chaos configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-chaos
