How To Install pcsc-tools on Kali Linux

What is pcsc-tools

This archive contains some tools useful for a PC/SC user. The tools provided are:
pcsc_scan(1) scans available smart card readers and print detected events: card insertion with ATR, card removal;
ATR_analysis(1) analyses a smart card ATR (Answer To Reset)
scriptor(1) Perl script to send commands to a smart card using a batch file or stdin;
gscriptor(1) the same idea as scriptor.pl(1) but with Perl-Gtk GUI.
There are three methods to install pcsc-tools
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pcsc-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pcsc-tools
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pcsc-tools
Install pcsc-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pcsc-tools
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pcsc-tools
Install pcsc-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pcsc-tools
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pcsc-tools
How To Uninstall pcsc-tools on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the pcsc-tools
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pcsc-tools
Uninstall pcsc-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pcsc-tools
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pcsc-tools
Remove pcsc-tools Configurations and Data
To remove pcsc-tools
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pcsc-tools
Remove pcsc-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove pcsc-tools
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pcsc-tools
