How To Install pbsim on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install pbsim on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is pbsim
pbsim is:
PacBio DNA sequencers produce two types of characteristic reads: CCS (short and low error rate) and CLR (long and high error rate), both of which could be useful for de novo assembly of genomes. PBSIM simulates those PacBio reads from a reference sequence by using either a model-based or sampling-based simulation. Simulated reads are useful, for example, when developing or evaluating sequence assemblers targeted at PacBio data.
There are three methods to install pbsim on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pbsim Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pbsim using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pbsim
Install pbsim Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pbsim using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pbsim
Install pbsim Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pbsim using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pbsim
How To Uninstall pbsim on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the pbsim package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pbsim
Uninstall pbsim And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pbsim and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pbsim
Remove pbsim Configurations and Data
To remove pbsim configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pbsim
Remove pbsim configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove pbsim configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pbsim
