How To Install paw++ on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install paw++ on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is paw++
paw++ is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This package includes Paw++, an interactive program for use in analysis and graphical presentation. Paw++ is the same program as PAW (in the “paw” package), but with a more user-friendly Motif-based GUI, compiled against Lesstif in Debian.
The program is linked statically against the CERN libraries on 64-bit architectures in order to function properly, as its design is not very 64-bit clean.
There are three methods to install paw++ on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install paw++ Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install paw++ using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install paw++
Install paw++ Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install paw++ using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install paw++
Install paw++ Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install paw++ using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install paw++
How To Uninstall paw++ on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the paw++ package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove paw++
Uninstall paw++ And Its Dependencies
To uninstall paw++ and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove paw++
Remove paw++ Configurations and Data
To remove paw++ configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge paw++
Remove paw++ configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove paw++ configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge paw++
