How To Install passwordsafe on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install passwordsafe on Kali Linux.
What is passwordsafe
passwordsafe is:
Password Safe allows you to safely and easily create a secured and encrypted user name/password list. With Password Safe all you have to do is create and remember a single “Master Password” of your choice in order to unlock and access your entire user name/password list.
This is the GNU/Linux version of the popular PasswordSafe password manager, originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and open sourced in 2002.
Compatible with 1.x, 2.x and 3.x versions of the database format.
Note: This is a BETA release for Linux, therefore some functionality may not yet be implemented.
There are three methods to install passwordsafe on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install passwordsafe Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install passwordsafe using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install passwordsafeInstall passwordsafe Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install passwordsafe using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install passwordsafeInstall passwordsafe Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install passwordsafe using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install passwordsafeHow To Uninstall passwordsafe on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the passwordsafe package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove passwordsafeUninstall passwordsafe And Its Dependencies
To uninstall passwordsafe and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove passwordsafeRemove passwordsafe Configurations and Data
To remove passwordsafe configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge passwordsafeRemove passwordsafe configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove passwordsafe configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge passwordsafeDependencies
