How To Install pari-seadata on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install pari-seadata on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is pari-seadata
pari-seadata is:
PARI/GP is a widely used computer algebra system designed for fast computations in number theory (factorizations, algebraic number theory, elliptic curves…), but also contains a large number of other useful functions to compute with mathematical entities such as matrices, polynomials, power series, algebraic numbers, etc., and a lot of transcendental functions. PARI is also available as a C library to allow for faster computations.
Originally developed by Henri Cohen and his co-workers (University Bordeaux I, France), PARI is now under the GPL and maintained by Karim Belabas with the help of many volunteer contributors.
This package contains the optional PARI package seadata which provides the modular polynomials for prime level up to 500 needed by the GP function ellap.
There are three methods to install pari-seadata on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pari-seadata Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pari-seadata using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pari-seadata
Install pari-seadata Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pari-seadata using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pari-seadata
Install pari-seadata Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pari-seadata using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pari-seadata
How To Uninstall pari-seadata on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the pari-seadata package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pari-seadata
Uninstall pari-seadata And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pari-seadata and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pari-seadata
Remove pari-seadata Configurations and Data
To remove pari-seadata configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pari-seadata
Remove pari-seadata configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove pari-seadata configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pari-seadata
