What is pam_ssh

This PAM module provides single sign-on behavior for UNIX using SSH keys. Users are authenticated by decrypting their SSH private keys with the password provided. In the first PAM login session phase, an ssh-agent process is started and keys are added. The same agent is used for the following PAM sessions. In any case the appropriate environment variables are set in the session phase.

We can use yum or dnf to install pam_ssh on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install pam_ssh.

Install pam_ssh on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install pam_ssh using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install pam_ssh

Install pam_ssh on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install pam_ssh using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install pam_ssh

How To Uninstall pam_ssh on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the pam_ssh package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove pam_ssh
