How To Install packagekit on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install packagekit
on Kali Linux.
What is packagekit
packagekit is:
PackageKit allows performing simple software management tasks over a DBus interface e.g. refreshing the cache, updating, installing and removing software packages or searching for multimedia codecs and file handlers.
The work is done by backends which make use of the package manager shipped by the corresponding distribution. PackageKit is not meant to replace advanced tools like Synaptic.
The main benefits are:
- unified interface on several distributions
- fine grained privileges by using PolicyKit
- independency from a running desktop session during the processing
There are three methods to install packagekit
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install packagekit Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install packagekit
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install packagekit
Install packagekit Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install packagekit
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install packagekit
Install packagekit Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install packagekit
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install packagekit
How To Uninstall packagekit on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the packagekit
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove packagekit
Uninstall packagekit And Its Dependencies
To uninstall packagekit
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove packagekit
Remove packagekit Configurations and Data
To remove packagekit
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge packagekit
Remove packagekit configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove packagekit
