How To Install pacemaker-common on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install pacemaker-common on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is pacemaker-common
pacemaker-common is:
At its core, Pacemaker is a distributed finite state machine capable of co-ordinating the startup and recovery of inter-related services across a set of machines.
Pacemaker understands many different resource types (OCF, SYSV, systemd) and can accurately model the relationships between them (colocation, ordering).
It can even use technology such as Docker to automatically isolate the resources managed by the cluster.
This package contains common infrastructure and data files for the Pacemaker daemons and utilities.
There are three methods to install pacemaker-common on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pacemaker-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pacemaker-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pacemaker-common
Install pacemaker-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pacemaker-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pacemaker-common
Install pacemaker-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pacemaker-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pacemaker-common
How To Uninstall pacemaker-common on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the pacemaker-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pacemaker-common
Uninstall pacemaker-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pacemaker-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pacemaker-common
Remove pacemaker-common Configurations and Data
To remove pacemaker-common configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pacemaker-common
Remove pacemaker-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove pacemaker-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pacemaker-common
