How To Install ow-tools on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install ow-tools
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is ow-tools
ow-tools is:
The 1-Wire bus is a cheap low-speed bus for devices like weather sensors, access control, etc. It can be attached to your system via serial, USB, I2C, and other interfaces.
This package includes two TclTk tools:
- owtap: inspect network transmission of the owserver protocol
- owmon: show statistics and setting for an owserver
There are three methods to install ow-tools
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ow-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ow-tools
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ow-tools

After updating apt database, We can install ow-tools
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ow-tools
Install ow-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ow-tools
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ow-tools
How To Uninstall ow-tools on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the ow-tools
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ow-tools
Uninstall ow-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ow-tools
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ow-tools
Remove ow-tools Configurations and Data
To remove ow-tools
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ow-tools
Remove ow-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ow-tools
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ow-tools
