How To Install osra on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install osra on Debian 12.
What is osra
osra is:
OSRA is a utility designed to convert graphical representations of chemical structures, as they appear in journal articles, patent documents, textbooks, trade magazines etc., into SMILES (Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry Specification) - a computer recognizable molecular structure format. OSRA can read a document in any of the over 90 graphical formats parseable by ImageMagick - including GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, PDF, PS etc., and generate the SMILES representation of the molecular structure images encountered within that document.
There are three methods to install osra on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install osra Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install osra using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install osra
Install osra Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install osra using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install osra
Install osra Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install osra using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install osra
How To Uninstall osra on Debian 12
To uninstall only the osra package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove osra
Uninstall osra And Its Dependencies
To uninstall osra and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove osra
Remove osra Configurations and Data
To remove osra configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge osra
Remove osra configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge osra
