OsmoTRX is a software-defined radio transceiver that implements the Layer 1 physical layer of a BTS comprising the following 3GPP specifications:

TS 05.01 “Physical layer on the radio path” TS 05.02 “Multiplexing and Multiple Access on the Radio Path” TS 05.04 “Modulation” TS 05.10 “Radio subsystem synchronization”

In this context, BTS is “Base transceiver station”. It’s the stations that connect mobile phones to the mobile network.

3GPP is the “3rd Generation Partnership Project” which is the collaboration between different telecommunication associations for developing new generations of mobile phone networks. (post-2G/GSM)

There are three methods to install osmo-trx on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install osmo-trx Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install osmo-trx using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install osmo-trx

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install osmo-trx using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install osmo-trx

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install osmo-trx using aptitude by running the following command:

How To Uninstall osmo-trx on Debian 12

To uninstall only the osmo-trx package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove osmo-trx

To remove osmo-trx configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge osmo-trx
