How To Install osmo-mgw on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install osmo-mgw on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is osmo-mgw
osmo-mgw is:
OsmoMGW, the Osmocom Media Gateway, is a Media Gateway for handling user plane (voice) traffic in cellular networks.
OsmoMGW supports the IETF MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol) for control from Call Agents, such as those present in OsmoBSC and OsmoMSC.
At the moment (October 2017), OsmoMGW only implements RTP proxy / RTP bridge type endpoints, to each of which two RTP connections can be established.
OsmoMGW is the generalized version of an earlier much more special-purpose implementation called osmo-bsc_mgcp.
There are three methods to install osmo-mgw on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install osmo-mgw Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install osmo-mgw using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install osmo-mgw
Install osmo-mgw Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install osmo-mgw using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install osmo-mgw
Install osmo-mgw Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install osmo-mgw using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install osmo-mgw
How To Uninstall osmo-mgw on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the osmo-mgw package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove osmo-mgw
Uninstall osmo-mgw And Its Dependencies
To uninstall osmo-mgw and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove osmo-mgw
Remove osmo-mgw Configurations and Data
To remove osmo-mgw configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge osmo-mgw
Remove osmo-mgw configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove osmo-mgw configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge osmo-mgw
