How To Install ophcrack on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ophcrack on Kali Linux.

What is ophcrack

ophcrack is:

Ophcrack is a Windows password cracker based on a time-memory trade-off using rainbow tables. This is a new variant of Hellman’s original trade-off, with better performance. It recovers 99.9% of alphanumeric passwords in seconds.

It works for Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7.

This package contains ophcrack with QT4 based graphical UI. Please note that it can be used in command line as well.

There are three methods to install ophcrack on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ophcrack Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ophcrack using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ophcrack

Install ophcrack Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ophcrack using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ophcrack

Install ophcrack Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ophcrack using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ophcrack

How To Uninstall ophcrack on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the ophcrack package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ophcrack

Uninstall ophcrack And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ophcrack and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ophcrack

Remove ophcrack Configurations and Data

To remove ophcrack configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ophcrack

Remove ophcrack configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ophcrack configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ophcrack
