How To Install ophcrack-cli on Kali Linux

What is ophcrack-cli

ophcrack-cli is:

Ophcrack is a Windows password cracker based on a time-memory trade-off using rainbow tables. This is a new variant of Hellman’s original trade-off, with better performance. It recovers 99.9% of alphanumeric passwords in seconds.

It works for Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7.

This package contains ophcrack with command line interface only.

There are three methods to install ophcrack-cli on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ophcrack-cli Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ophcrack-cli using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ophcrack-cli

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ophcrack-cli using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
